From the first idea to signed plans
Architecturaldesign
From the first sketch to construction documents — bespoke plans, code-compliant and ready for the building permit.
Architectural design is the foundation of every successful construction project in Douala: a well-prepared file avoids rework on site, secures the budget and is a precondition for obtaining the building permit. YAMBE Architectes designs bespoke projects — houses, modern villas, apartment buildings, commercial spaces — from the first sketch to construction drawings, taking into account the equatorial climate, soil conditions and local planning rules.
What architectural design covers
A complete architectural study is much more than an attractive 3D render. It turns your needs and budget into a project that can be built, costed and approved. At YAMBE Architectes, every assignment moves forward in phases approved with you, so you stay in control at every stage.
- Feasibility study: analysis of the plot, the budget and regulatory constraints
- Sketch design and outline design: volumes, siting, bioclimatic orientation
- Detailed design: dimensioned plans, elevations, sections, choice of materials
- Building permit application compliant with the municipality's requirements
- Construction drawings and technical details for contractors
Designing for Douala's climate and soils
In Douala, humid heat, heavy rainfall and often clayey or low-lying ground call for precise design choices: building orientation and solar shading to reduce air-conditioning needs, generous roof overhangs, natural cross-ventilation, rainwater management from the site plan onwards, and foundations adapted after a soil survey.
Anticipating these parameters at the design stage — not during construction — is what separates a well-controlled project from one that overruns on cost and time.
Plans that get through the building permit
In Cameroon, the building permit application must be prepared by an architect registered with the National Order of Architects of Cameroon (ONAC). YAMBE Architectes (ONAC 731) prepares and submits a complete file — descriptive statement, regulatory plans, site integration — and follows it through until the permit is granted.
Frequently asked questions
How much does architectural design cost in Douala?+
Fees depend on the floor area, the complexity and the scope of the assignment (design only, or a full mission through to construction). We always start with a feasibility study that costs the project precisely before any commitment.
What is the difference between outline design, detailed design and construction drawings?+
Outline design sets the architectural concept (volumes, siting). Detailed design specifies everything that will be built (dimensioned plans, materials, elevations) and is used for the permit. Construction drawings provide the level of detail contractors need to build without guesswork.
Do you need a soil survey before designing?+
Yes, it is strongly recommended in Douala. The geotechnical survey determines the type of foundations and avoids major extra costs during construction. We include it in the design phase.
Do you only produce the plans, without supervising the site?+
Yes, the assignment can stop once the plans are delivered. But most of our clients also entrust us with construction management: it is the best guarantee that what is built matches what was designed.
